Appointment types
We deliver healthcare
via a variety of appointment types. We offer routine
appointments, telephone appointments via messages to your doctor,
telephone appointments via the daily medical team, home visits and
emergency appointments allocated by the daily medical team.
Routine Appointments
We operate a routine appointment
system. You can only routinely book appointments 2 weeks in advance.
Most appointments are for 10 minutes. They can be made by
either telephoning the surgery, or direct with Reception. Less
busy times are from 10 am onwards.
For routine
appointments you will, wherever possible, be offered an appointment
with a choice of GP.
Emergency/Urgent
Appointments
Our Daily Medical Team
is a 'triage' telephone appointment system managed at King Street
from 08:00 am - 11.30 am Mon-Fri. Your details will be taken
by our Medical Team Receptionist and these will then be passed onto
the doctor/nurse. They will call you back as soon as possible;
please be available to answer the phone. Some medical problems
can be dealt with via this telephone appointment; patients requiring
an urgent medical appointments that day will be given an emergency
appointment consultation.
Messages to your
doctor
Please try to phone
between 09:00 am and 12:00 noon. If you wish to speak to your
doctor or leave a mesage, please ask to speak to his/her secretary.
You will need to leave a contact number and the times that you will
be available. The Doctor will phone you back, but it may not
always be the same day.
Please Note
As a busy practice we handle many
thousands of surgery appointments every year. If the
surgery seems busy, please bear in mind that NHS doctors
have limited time and little or no control over the
increasing demand for their services.
Outside
of Hours/Emergencies
If you have an urgent medical problem
that cannot wait until the next day, please call Devon Doctors on Call
via the message on our telephone answering machine. Note: this
will require making two telephone calls.
Alternatively for general advice
from a nurse call NHS Direct on 0845 46 47.
However, in the case of a life
threatening emergency always call 999.
